Back to the Runway

I've been keeping something of a running tally of fashion brands that have attempted to co-opt the bicycle as a brand accessory. I think we're up to 14 now--including these guys below.

This is the collaboration between Dutch urban clothier, G-Star Raw, and Cannondale.

WHEELS is the project of jeweler Georg Jensen and Danish bicycle maker, Soren Sögreni.

This is the bike offered by James Perse, probably best known for his super soft jersey women's wear. (Considering that, wouldn't you say that's a really butch bike?)

Wow, I'd seen pics of the Chanel bike, but didn't realize there were so many fashiony bikes out there.

Phillip and Dottie, I would think that the bike would be a symbol that a lot of fashion brands would like to appropriate at this time--it's green and economical and, besides worrying about our current economy, some people are hoping a new green economy will be the way forward for this country. However, I just saw a blurb on "Nighline" about the return of the power suit. I don't think that power suits and bikes really go together. Hopefully, it's just Donna Karen and a few other designers going that route and the bike-as-brand-accessory momentum keeps building.
